Today, Sun did what we have all been waiting for since they first announced that they would do it: They released the verilog source code for the UltraSparc T1 “Niagara” processor under the GPL. Go Sun!
This is extremely cool!
But, what are you doing? Don’t stay here, go get the source. If you don’t want to download it, you can browse it online.
I wonder how long it’ll take to synthesise this beast, with its eight cores, each capable of running four simultaneous threads? In school we synthesised the OpenRISC 1200 processor, which is tiny by comparison, and it took a good 20-30 minutes.
