While checking if svk 0.30 had hit debian incoming I stumbled across nvidia-graphics-drivers_1.0.7167. I didn’t think anything spectacular had happened, probably only added support for the new super duper geforce or something. But since my other option was to study, I checked the changelog. What I read took me with surprise. It seems like nvidia has listened to the users and finally added support for XRandR rotation. From the changelog
Added support for XRandR rotation; see Appendix W in the text README.
I haven’t tried it yet, but as soon as it’s moved from incoming to unstable, I will. Thank you NVIDIA!
